This week, students at our ECEC welcomed esteemed author Lisa Wheeler. Ms. Wheeler is known for her best-selling children’s books spanning a variety of topics including dinosaurs, holidays, rhyming, and animals. She spent the day delivering engaging presentations to all preschool, young fives, and kindergarten classes. Her “I Met An Author Today” program included songs, hand-plays, and readings of a few books with coordinating activities. Students were given the opportunity to preorder books that Ms. Wheeler personalized and signed the day of the event. A special thank you to LEAF for fully funding this event for our youngest readers as well Schuler Books - Okemos for working to handle the book preorder for this special event. Our students felt excited and inspired!

Join us for preschool orientation April 5!

Kindergarten Round Up is right around the corner! Save the date: April 11 and 12.

Last week in Young 5s, students learned about letter O, our student athletes completed in the 2024 Young Fives Olympics! They learned about important Olympic symbols like the five rings and the importance of the torch. After an opening ceremony, the athletes competed in cozy coupe races, ball bouncing, shot put, hula hoop passes, egg and spoon race, tug-o-war, and an obstacle course. The Olympic Games ended with gold medalists!

Young Fives students in Mrs. Wooley's class worked as elves at Santa’s Workshop. They needed to check the North Pole mail, fill toy requests, choose wrapping materials and get their presents wrapped for Santa’s sleigh!

Kindergarten students at the ECEC wrote letters to the Grinch this week and walked them over to the Grinch mailbox in front of the Laingsburg Public Library. Thank you to the Winterfest committees for finding ways to involve our community's children in the holiday festivities!

The middle school basketball players welcomed our youngest wolf pups into school this morning. These student athletes opened car doors, greeted from busses and walked preschoolers, Young 5, and kindergarten students into their building. What a great way to start the day!

Students in Mrs. Wooley's Young Fives are learning about the letter V and practicing being part of a Vet Clinic. They brought their pets to the clinic to be checked out, but also took turns working at the clinic and giving care to the animals.

Thank you LSW Emergency Services for visiting the preschool, Young 5s, and kindergarten classes at the ECEC during fire safety week. We appreciated our presentation from Firefighter Aaron to learn about what to do and where to go during a fire. Students loved ending their learning with a visit to the truck to check out the hose and siren and especially the coloring books and fire hats.

During F week in Young Fives, students learned how to make French toast! Each student cracked their own egg, mixed their ingredients, dipped their bread, flipped their own toast, and of course enjoyed their hard work!

Kindergarten students learned about cooperation in communities this week and visited places in our community today on a walking trip. A special thank you to Chief Dan with the police station, Leonard's Hardware, Tammy at Tammy's Bakery, Mrs. Chavez at the library, and the mail carriers at the post office. Our students experienced first hand the effects community helpers have on our town and ended their tour playing in McClintock Park.

Mrs. Klaver's class learned about butterfly life cycles and released their own classroom butterfly this week!

Mr's Wooley's class is working on "A is for Apples!".. In Young Fives we decided to go 🍎BOBBING FOR APPLES 🍎 which of course ended in eating apples. As scientists, we created apple volcanoes! 🌋

Middle school students in the Aspiring Teachers class are visiting ECEC Young 5s and kindergarten classes today. LMS students in this class plan and prepare lessons every other week to engage our wolf pups in literacy and mathematics practice.
